Details for our Spring Term are coming soon.

LINEC, the Learning Institute of New England College, is a program created to educate, entertain, and enhance life. It offers non-credit, peer-led, peer-taught courses to retired and working adults—for the sheer pleasure of learning.

LINEC classes are sponsored in conjunction with New England College. 

LINEC offers four to eight-week fall, spring, and summer courses.

  • The Fall Term is from October to November.
  • The Spring Term is from April to May.
  • The Summer Term is in July.

LINEC is a member of the Road Scholar Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) Resource Network and is affiliated with New England College, Henniker, New Hampshire.

Membership Benefits

How to Become a LINEC Member

  • Learning with and from peers
  • Reasonably priced classes
  • Access to course catalogs
  • Many opportunities to volunteer
  • Reduced fee for per-credit NEC courses
  • Opportunity to audit one NEC course per semester (based on course capacity) at zero cost 
  • Invitation to LINEC’s Annual Meeting
  • Invitation to special New England College (NEC) events
  • Free loan of LINEC course videos stored in NEC’s Danforth Library
  • Use of Danforth Library
  • Membership with LINEC costs $40 per person for the academic year, which runs from September through August.
  • This membership is mandatory for the Fall and Spring terms, and the fee is due in September.
  • With the membership, courses in the Fall and Spring terms are available for just $15 each.
  • Membership is not necessary for the Summer term, which is priced at $25 and allows you to enroll in as many courses as you’d like.

Join Prof. Eric J. Simon as he presents educational travel opportunities around the world, each specifically tailored to lifelong learners. Every trip includes pre- and post-departure online Zoom classes to learn about the biology, culture, and logistics of the trip, service opportunities to help each local community, and all-inclusive in-country pricing.

A trip to Patagonia in January 2025 is fully booked, but future travel includes Costa Rica & Panama in January 2026 to view rainforests and volcanoes and a trip through the Panama Canal. In August 2026, Eric will take travelers to Iceland to experience the natural beauty of waterfalls, thermal pools, sea cliffs, and the spectacle of a total solar eclipse!
